Abel Padilla

Abel Adonnay Padilla Regional Director and Primary TranslatorThe Piste Foundation would not exist without Abel.  He is fluent in Mayan, Spanish and English. Abel is a 5th generation Piste and Maya native, grew up with his parents, 1 brother and 3 sisters. His mother raised the children at home and now helps with the extended family. His father has a store at Chichen Itza selling handcrafts. Abel began helping his father at work when he was 8 years old. It was through this experience and the interaction with visitors to the site that he began learning to speak and write English. He went on to study at the University of Merida where he pursued anthropological studies to become an official tour guide. He sees his work at Chichen Itza as a window to the world where he can transmit the knowledge of his people to visitors from all around the Planet. He is in the process of learning Japanese and Russian in order to reach more people who come to learn about the ancient Maya. Abel is an artist at heart. The world is his notebook and his visions are manifested into woodcarvings, paintings and t-shirt designs. Abel lives with his wife Yolanda and their 3 children, Isia, Yuria and Tamara.
